According
to ANP, oil and natural gas production in Brazil totaled 3.828 million barrels
of oil equivalent per day in August, a new record.
Oil production was approximately 2.989 million barrels per day, an increase of
7.7% from the previous month and 18.5% from August 2018. The volume exceeded
the previous record set in July, when 2.775 million barrels were produced each
day.
Natural gas production came in at 133.3 million cubic meters per day,
surpassing the previous record of 124 million cubic meters set in July.
Overall, the month saw natural gas production increase 7.4% MoM and 25.3% YoY.
Pre-Salt
- Pre-salt production stemmed from 110 wells and reached 1.928 million bbl/d of oil and 79.3 million m³/d of natural gas, totaling 2.427 million boe/d. It increased 11.1% MoM and 41.1% YoY, corresponding to 63.4% of the total production in Brazil.
Natural Gas
- In August, natural gas utilization reached 97.5%. 65.5 million m³/day was made available to the market. Gas flaring was 3.323 million m³/d, a decrease of 4.2% MoM and an increase of 6.1% YoY.
Producing Fields
- The Lula field in the Santos Basin produced the most oil, averaging 1.026 million bbl/d. It was also the largest producer of natural gas, producing 43.4 million m³/d.
Production Origin
- Offshore fields produced 96.5% of oil and 81.1% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras produced 93.2% of oil and natural gas. Regarding the fields operated by Petrobras (100% stake), they produced 43% of the total. Domestic production stemmed from 7,118 wells, 676 being offshore and 6,442 onshore.
Highlights
- Estreito, in the Potiguar Basin, had the most onshore producing wells (1,096), while Marlim Sul, in the Campos Basin, had the largest number of offshore producing wells (75).
- FPSO Cidade de Maricá produced 150.6 thousand bbl/d in the Lula field through seven interconnected wells, making it the facility with the highest oil production.
- The Polo Arara facility, producing through 37 interconnected wells in the Arara Azul, Araracanga, Carapanauba, Cupiuba, Rio Urucu and Sudoeste Urucu fields, produced 8.7 million m³/d, making it the top natural gas producer.
Fields with Marginal Accumulations
- Fields with marginal accumulations produced 64.5 bbl/d of oil and 1.8 thousand m³/d of natural gas. The Itaparica field, operated by Petrobras, was the largest producer, with 19.5 boe/d.
Other Information
- In August, domestic production stemmed from 295 concession areas, two Transfer of Rights areas and five production sharing areas operated by 31 companies. Of these, 74 were offshore areas and 228 were onshore areas. Of the total producing areas, 10 are related to areas containing marginal accumulations.
- The average API grade was 27.6, with 38% of production being considered light oil (>31 API), 51.6% medium oil (>22 API and <31 API) and 10.5% heavy oil (<22 API).
- Mature onshore basins (fields/tests of long duration of the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 107.9 thousand boe/d, of which 85.7 thousand bbl/d was oil and 3.5 thousand m³/d was natural gas. Of this total, 100,400 boe/d were produced by Petrobras and 7,400 boe/d were produced by concessions not operated by Petrobras, of which: 369 boe/d came from Alagoas, 4,407 boe/d from Bahia, 16 boe/d from Espírito Santo, 2,442 boe/d from Rio Grande do Norte and 208 boe/d from Sergipe.
