Senator puts Foz do Amazonas drilling licenses back in the spotlight
During a session of the National Congress on Thursday (26), Senator Lucas Barreto demanded the government intervene in the issuance of exploration licenses for deep-water blocks in the Foz do Amazonas basin, stating that the presence of coral in the region is “fake news”. Without mentioning Total directly, the senator referred to drilling projects in blocks FZA-M-57, 86, 88, 125 and 127, all in Foz do Amazonas and awarded during ANP’s 11th bidding round. In April, IBAMA terminated the licensing process started in 2014, forcing Total back to the starting block.
