Revisiting the eastern area of the pre-salt

We are excited to announce our new study using a petroleum system-based assessment methodology to revisit the eastern area of the pre-salt province due to its potential for undiscovered oil resources and probable high demand in the next ANP bidding rounds. We are confident that the industry will recover fast and that further petroleum exploration in the Santos and Campos basins will be needed to assess and understand the absence/existence of Barremian lacustrine source rocks in the eastern portion of the pre-salt in order to complement the usual approach driven by seismic recognition of reservoirs and traps. The regional risk assessment developed by BPS will use the mature area of the central-northern portion of the Santos Basin as an analog for the whole pre-salt province, and mainly for the eastern pods.

The idea is to shed light on the fluid component, which is invisible to the petroleum system approach in exploration decision making. Our advanced geochemical technology (AGT) is the most effective tool in existence today to solve the puzzle of hydrocarbon and CO2 coexistence in this still frontier area. The existence or not of source-rocks in the most pronounced depocenters recognized by the seismic data will be validated via full petroleum system modeling to de-risk the area and evaluate the blocks.

Regional risk assessment developed by BPS based on the mature area of the central-northern portion of the Santos Basin as an analog for the entire pre-salt province, especially for the eastern pods.
